About the Blogger

Hi, I’m Emily. I use she/her pronouns. I am 33 years old (for 95% of the year 2023 this is true). I have known I was asexual since the end of 2013, when I was 23 years old. I figured out various other labels and orientations over the course of later years. I identify as a pan-alterous demi-sensual gray-aro kissing-averse sex-averse asexual. I consider the ace, aro, and pan flags to all be my flags. 🙂

I figured out I likely had ADHD a few years ago, and then felt more and more sure throughout 2019 and 2020. In September 2020, I was officially diagnosed, and have been on a journey to try to improve my life in ways that will actually work for my ADHD self. I have a lot of areas I want to work on self-improvement on.

I was raised by an abusive mother who had untreated mental illnesses. She died one year ago, in January of 2020, and I had been estranged from her for over a decade.

I have some huge goals in my life. I’m working on a career change, and am trying to work towards being self-employed at the moment. I quit my job near the end of 2020. This dream is one of my huge goals for 2021.

I also intend to become a foster parent to multiple children one day. I would love a co-parenting partner of some kind, but I’m currently single/unpartnered and am working towards enough stability in the rest of my life that I could pursue foster parenting as a single adult if I don’t find a partner by roughly age 35.

Another one of my goals is to write a novel with a queerplatonic marriage and all sorts of representation I dream of being in fiction. I am planning to make progress towards this goal in 2021 by writing more fanfiction again just to get back into writing fanfiction at all.

I enjoy editing fanvideos and am going to try to spend less time mindlessly on social media, mostly twitter these days, to some degree also too much Facebook, and am gonna try to figure out a way to more purposefully spend my time on my fulfilling hobby of fanvideo editing instead, while also not becoming so consumed by it that I lose track of my other goals. I’ve been editing fanvideos since September 2006, 14 years and counting, and it’s my deepest involvement in fandom. I also love other aspects of fandom too though, and sometimes record podfics (basically audiobooks for fanfiction), and I love analysis and meta about a series or character etc.

I intend to blog on any of these above topics – or possibly on anything else if I ever feel I have a lot to say on a subject.

I am an activist for both asexuality and aromanticism and a large part of my activism is that I volunteer my time through The Ace and Aro Advocacy Project (TAAAP), which I also co-founded at the end of 2017.

I also co-host a podcast, Aceterpretations, along with 2 other hosts, and we have never had a very frequent or consistent release schedule. “A podcast about asexuality, fandom, and where they intersect!”

I had been known around the internet for over 16 years under the username “luvtheheaven”, occasionally with a number after it. I came up with the name when I was 14-years-old, which was a time when I was questioning my religious beliefs and simultaneously getting deeply into the TV series “7th Heaven”. The name had been a reference to “loving” the TV series. In the years since then, there are many reasons I am not super happy to be associated with my former username, although I believe I will never be entirely free of people who knew me by that name. I’m an atheist though who doesn’t believe in any form of an afterlife, and has been identifying as an atheist for over a decade now. I would like to distance myself from a name that has “heaven” in it for that reason, if nothing else. I plan to try to make the transition as smooth as possible for people who knew me before in whatever ways I can. I’m trying to keep the continuity of who I am, despite my name change.

I chose VioletEmerald as a name for a couple reasons. One main reason is because ace and aro colors are purple and green, and being aro & ace is such a huge part of my identity and life. I also chose the name because I’ve loved the name Violet as a potential psueodonym for myself for a very long time, probably since I fell in love with the A Series of Unfortunate Events books as a child, and the character of Violet resonated with me in many ways.

I didn’t want my old blog posts under my luvtheheaven blog name to break. So I decided to start a new blog with my new name, and leave all my old blog posts where they were associated with luvtheheaven. https://luvtheheaven.wordpress.com/
I have years of blogging over there.

“violetemerald” was taken, as a URL, so this with the x at the end is the next best thing.

  1. I’m not sure how to follow this blog other than by posting a comment and ticking the option to be notified of new posts by email. I’ll try it that way. I’ll definitely want to follow it.

      1. Can you add widgets without a paid plan? I was pretty sure you couldn’t. Maybe i was mistaken and confusing them with plugins. Someone did just subscribe to this blog via email another way but yeah if I can i will

    1. Finally added the follow blog widgets! When I was designing it I didn’t see all the widget options, I only saw the footer/sidebar/header options for where they’d go and thought those were the widgets themselves, that the only options were to add a footer of some kind lol… clearly didn’t look hard enough. 😛
